Over the past number of months, we have seen a noticeable increase in celebrity-inspired engagement rings; especially those of the royal variety!
The more understated and less flashy the better for Irish brides, who have fallen out of love with over the top, celebrity inspired engagement rings. Instead, the likes of Meghan Markle’s cushion and round trilogy diamond ring and Princess Eugenie’s pink sapphire engagement ring have inspired countless brides-to-be since the rings hit headlines earlier this year. Pippa and Kate Middleton’s engagement rings also remain firm favourites, with Kate’s ‘Princess Diana’ ring holding the top spot as the most popular sapphire and diamond engagement ring designs.
Paris Hilton’s $2 million pear diamond engagement ring failed to inspire diamond lovers around the world, as the 20-carat creation was highly criticised by media outlets for being ostentatious and ‘tacky’. We’re afraid we have to agree on this one! A stunning diamond of this size, and of this shape especially would look incredible as a pendent around the neck. We think it looks completely out of place and oversized on Paris’ hand.
According to Jewlr.com, more ornate celebrity designs like that of Angelina Jolie’s 16-carat engagement ring (presented to her by Brad Pitt) or the flashy heart-shaped diamond solitaire worn by Lady Gaga score the lowest in terms of interest and popularity.
When it comes to the contemporary engagement ring trends, all signals seem to point towards understated glamour. With this being said however, every woman’s taste is different and it will always depend on the preference of the bride-to-be; whether she loves the art deco, antique or the glamourous, Hollywood halo style engagement ring!
